Plum Cinnamon Butter

Plum Cinnamon Butter

This silky fruit butter is made by slowly cooking ripe plums with sugar and warm spices until thickened. Cinnamon adds a cozy note that makes this spread perfect for autumn mornings.

Ingredients

  • 5 lbs plums, pitted and chopped
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice

Instructions

  1. Place plums, sugar and apple juice in a large slow cooker or heavy pot. Cook on low heat until plums collapse, about 3 hours.
  2. Purée the mixture with an immersion blender until smooth.
  3. Stir in cinnamon and allspice, then continue cooking uncovered on low heat, stirring occasionally, until thick and spreadable (1–2 hours).
  4. Ladle the hot butter into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace, and seal.
  5. Process jars in boiling water for 10 minutes. Cool before storing.

Use this plum butter on morning toast or as a filling for thumbprint cookies. It also pairs well with cheese and charcuterie.
