Plum Cinnamon Butter
This silky fruit butter is made by slowly cooking ripe plums with sugar and warm spices until thickened. Cinnamon adds a cozy note that makes this spread perfect for autumn mornings.
Ingredients
- 5 lbs plums, pitted and chopped
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup apple juice
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
Instructions
- Place plums, sugar and apple juice in a large slow cooker or heavy pot. Cook on low heat until plums collapse, about 3 hours.
- Purée the mixture with an immersion blender until smooth.
- Stir in cinnamon and allspice, then continue cooking uncovered on low heat, stirring occasionally, until thick and spreadable (1–2 hours).
- Ladle the hot butter into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace, and seal.
- Process jars in boiling water for 10 minutes. Cool before storing.
Use this plum butter on morning toast or as a filling for thumbprint cookies. It also pairs well with cheese and charcuterie.
