Cranberry Orange Relish for Thanksgiving
Forget the canned sauce—this homemade relish bursts with tart cranberries and bright citrus. A hint of cinnamon ties it all together, creating a relish that complements turkey but also shines on sandwiches and cheese boards. Best of all, it can be made weeks ahead.
Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh cranberries
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- Juice and zest of one large orange
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, water and orange juice. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Reduce heat and simmer until cranberries pop and the mixture thickens, about 10–15 minutes.
- Stir in orange zest, cinnamon and cloves. Simmer another 5 minutes to let flavors meld.
- Ladle hot relish into sterilized jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace. Wipe rims, apply lids and process in boiling water for 10 minutes.
- Let jars cool completely. The relish will thicken as it cools; refrigerate after opening.
This jewel-toned relish brightens holiday meals, but it’s equally delicious spooned onto yogurt or baked Brie. Prepare a few extra jars for hostess gifts during the holiday season.
